When it comes to today’s market, two CPU manufacturers come to mind: Intel and AMD. A few years ago, AMD and Intel CPUs were not even in the same league, but now, AMD is gaining more momentum. Since your CPU choice will dictate which motherboard to go for, you should take a minute to compare the two most relevant lines now: Intel’s 10th generation processors and AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper. Intel’s lineup offers up to 18 cores and 32 threads while AMD’s goes up to 64 cores and 128 threads. This makes AMD the obvious winner even though its lineup is more expensive.

Choose a Graphics Card

Unless you are going for a rugged monitor or integrated GPUs are not your thing, you can go for an independent graphics card. If your work relies on video editing, you will need a powerful GPU.

If your budget does not allow it, you can opt for the GTX collection instead even though it is a bit outdated in 2020.

Most computer cases come equipped with fans out of the box. Nonetheless, since your workstation will be exposed to the elements, it runs the risk of throttling more easily. For this reason, buying a dedicated CPU cooler is your best bet.

Buy a Strong Monitor and Keyboard

Although they look exquisite, fancy curved computer monitors are not suited for harsh environments, which is why you should not buy one if sturdiness is your main concern. Instead, you can opt for rugged industrial displays. The great thing about these monitors is that they come in different shapes to cater to buyers’ unique work needs.

So, you can choose between mounted LCD panels, clamshell display/keyboard combos, and multi-display systems. Similarly, when choosing a keyboard, forgo traditional mechanical ones in favor of rackmount keyboard drawers, as they are generally sturdier. 

When working in harsh conditions, you should build your computer workstation to be sturdy and durable.
