SEO Tips: How Long Does it Take to Get on the First Page of Google?

It is a commonly asked question, but the answer is not as straightforward as you might expect.

There are a number of determining factors that can either accelerate or stall your rise to the top of the first page of Google. That is why it is very difficult to give an answer that will apply every time.

Some aspects that will prove influential in achieving this exalted status include making sure you use the best guest posting service so that your focus is on quality, which definitely matters when it comes to achieving high ranking.

Here is a look at some of the factors and what to expect in your quest to get on the first page of Google.

Age matters

A good starting point would be to take a look at the age of the top-ranking pages as this gives you a guide as to what sort of timespan is needed.

The average page at the top of Google rankings tends to be about at least two years old, although roughly 20% of pages were created within the last 12 months. On average, a typical top-ranking page is about 2-3 years old, but some pages managed to find a way to fast-track their way to the top of the rankings.

In other words, age is a guide, but you can find some pages that managed to hit the top in as little as three months. The age of a page is relevant but not a 100% guide to how long it will take to get to the first page of Google results.

Domain rating is another key factor

Another aspect to look at is the relevance of having a high Domain Rating (DR).

It seems that, in general, pages that have a higher DR are more likely to perform better and climb the rankings more efficiently than a page with a low DR.

This should not be a revelation to anyone who understands SEO as the DR metric operated by Ahrefs is designed to provide a clear indication of the strength of a website’s backlink profile. This can often prove an accurate guide as it aligns well with Google rankings results.

Based on the evidence of these DR metrics it often correlates that a page with a higher DR will stand a better chance of making it to the top.

Keywords also provide a clue

What is interesting about keywords is that only a small percentage of top-ranked sites featured a high-volume keyword within the first year. However, low-volume keywords demonstrate a capacity to perform better and shoot up the rankings at a faster rate.

Unfortunately, you can’t take this approach too scientifically as it is only about 5% or so of pages that manage to hit the ground running with a low-volume keyword. In other words, it is a way to reach the top in a quick timescale, but not a strategy that guarantees success.

As you can see, there are so many variables that make it hard to give an accurate answer as to how long it takes to get on the first page of Google.
