Why Machines & AI Cannot Be a Replacement for Humans?
The advances in modern technology have made automation commonplace in various industries, such as workplaces and factories, as well as in our homes. Artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually getting absorbed into also aspects of our daily lives. This innovation has brought about changes and overthrown the former way of operations to provide fast and affordable solutions.
With the rate at which Artificial Intelligence is taking over in all spheres of life, does that mean we could lose our jobs to machines? Should we be scared of being replaced by a robot any time soon?
For sure, the thought of losing our job to artificial intelligence might have crossed our minds. It may be difficult to put away those thoughts with the evidence we have observed around us. As a matter of fact, many jobs that used to be available to humans in the early 90s are now replaced by artificial intelligence and machines.
Therefore claiming artificial intelligence or automation is not likely to replace humans might be difficult to believe. But do not get overwhelmed!. This article will shed more light on why artificial intelligence can never replace humans, especially in the business world.
AI Can’t Visualize The Unknown
Usually, AI is often designed to address specific problems, not general ones. This is the reason why dealing with the unknown could be challenging for AI or even impossible. In addition to this, finding solutions to unencountered problems or achieving goals and objectives that require complex planning may be difficult for AI.
For instance, business or website owners in the United States must follow and meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and make their web content more accessible to people with disabilities. For this reason, companies hire professional auditors to help them double-check to ensure that those guidelines are met.
This kind of audit requires complex designs, and using AI could be almost impossible if you want to avoid being penalized. In this kind of situation, humans are the better choice to consider. They can easily review the 2.1 AA Checklist and past learnings against the current website’s standard, identify the deficiencies, and offer adequate solutions to the identified problems.
No Spontaneous Presence
The lack of spontaneous presence is one of the significant setbacks AI faces despite the sophistication in its operation. Artificial intelligence is vulnerable to immediate and unexpected alterations because it has no contingency plan.
Hence, it may be a challenge to automate these AI-powered machines for problems that need spontaneity and a timely sense. On the contrary, humans are spontaneous, and they can easily respond to change and alterations when the situation arises.
Lack of Care and Empathy
We have now seen or heard of robots performing surgeries and providing other medical services for humans. But artificial intelligence and machines can only give medical and surgical therapies, and not empathy and care.
Care and empathy cannot be overlooked as far as patients’ recovery is concerned because the therapies alone aren’t enough to get most patients back on their feet. Studies have revealed that patients with emphatic and attentive doctors recover more quickly, and no treatment can replace these attributes.
Only human doctors and healthcare professionals can show patients empathy, care and give them listening ears. Artificial intelligence cannot do that, and it may take many years to see that come to reality if it is ever going to happen.
Creative Thinking
Humans are creative! They can think outside the box and obtain ideas from their environment to develop innovations. The human brain can be influenced by what it sees around, such as art, photography, or what it hears, such as music, and utilize this information to create ideas that can transform a whole generation.
As a business owner, you need this kind of creativity to achieve progress and drive huge success for your company. This can only be achieved by employing creative individuals, not machines, or artificial intelligence.
Unfortunately, creative thinking is one of the major deficiencies of artificial intelligence. AI can only replicate what has been programmed into it but creating something innovative is still an impossibility for AI.
The Bottom Line
Of course, we cannot dispute the fact that artificial intelligence can replicate human behavior, but the aspect of perceiving, thinking, analyzing, and understanding the way human brains work is still under research up till now. That is to say that the greatest intelligence on earth is still the human brain, regardless of how sophisticated and instrumental artificial intelligence is.
Although technology has benefited humans in many ways and has made life more comfortable, it has created more opportunities for humans in terms of job creation and enabling environment. But this does not mean artificial intelligence will replace the human brain or exclude us from careers in industry. The best it can do will be to complement us.
